Remote Funded Equity Day Trader — Baltimore, MD
Baltimore, MD
Maverick Trading
Intraday equity trading with firm capital — flat by close, paid on net profits.
ET-aligned, home to one of the largest US active asset managers, and a fraction of the cost of nearby DC or New York.
An equity day trader at Maverick takes positions in US-listed stocks and closes them by the end of the same session. The role exists for traders who think in tape — order flow, relative volume, intraday levels, and the rhythm of the open and close — and who prefer the discipline of starting each day flat. We allocate firm capital, set risk parameters per trader, and pay a profit split on net intraday P&L.
Trading from Baltimore, MD
Baltimore is home to T. Rowe Price, one of the largest active asset managers in the US, plus Legg Mason (now part of Franklin Templeton) and a meaningful biotech and medical research industry around Johns Hopkins. Eastern Time alignment with the NYSE.
Local ecosystem: T. Rowe Price HQ; Johns Hopkins; University of Maryland nearby.
Time zone: ET — the NYSE opens at 9:30am local for traders based in Baltimore.
What You'll Trade
Primarily liquid US equities: large-cap names with tight spreads, high-volume mid-caps, and selectively the most liquid small-caps. We discourage thin tickers, hard-to-borrow shorts, and pre-earnings positioning unless the trader has explicit approval for an earnings-driven strategy. Most day traders here run a watchlist of 10–40 names rather than chasing every gapper.
Day-to-Day
- Pre-market preparation: review overnight catalysts, news, and the levels you intend to trade off
- Open: take or pass on gaps and opening drives based on a defined playbook, not impulse
- Mid-session: manage existing positions, scale in or out at predefined levels, sit on hands when conditions are poor
- Last hour: most of the day's higher-quality setups; many of our day traders take the majority of their P&L here
- Close: flatten all positions, log trades with screenshots and notes, review what worked and what didn't
Risk Profile
Day trading at Maverick is intentionally conservative on a per-trade basis. We do not run hero traders. A typical day trader risks a small fraction of allocated capital on any single idea, sizes positions off pre-defined stop levels, and is measured on consistency over a quarter — not on the best week or the worst week. Daily loss limits are firm and enforced.
Who Succeeds in This Role
- Traders who can stay flat for hours when the tape isn't offering anything
- People who already journal their trades and review them honestly
- Candidates with experience trading their own capital — even if at small size
- Traders who can articulate why they took a trade, not just what happened after
Why This Role Exists at Maverick
Most day-trading paths in retail are funded by selling courses, evaluations, or subscriptions. Maverick is the opposite: we make money only when our traders do. The day-trader role is one of the most rule-bound at the firm, which is intentional — intraday markets punish discretion more than any other timeframe, and disciplined process is the difference between a viable career and a slow drain.
Tools & Platform
Maverick traders use a professional execution platform with direct market access, real-time Level II, and routing to dark pools and exchanges based on liquidity. We do not use retail mobile apps for execution. Charting and analytics are trader-choice, but most day traders here use Sierra Chart, ThinkOrSwim, or Bookmap alongside the firm's risk system.
