Remote Funded Risk-Defined Options Trader — Dallas, TX
Dallas, TX
Maverick Trading
Generalist options book — every position defined-risk, no exceptions.
Central Time alignment, no state income tax, and a financial industry growing faster than any other US metro.
A risk-defined options trader at Maverick is a generalist — running spreads, iron condors, calendars, and combinations as the market environment calls for them, but with one firm constraint: every position has a defined maximum loss. No naked short premium, no uncovered short legs, no positions where loss is theoretically unbounded. This is the broadest options role at the firm and one of the most popular for traders coming from retail options backgrounds.
Trading from Dallas, TX
Dallas is now home to one of the fastest-growing financial industries in the country. Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan, Charles Schwab, Fidelity, and Wells Fargo have all relocated meaningful headcount to the metro over the last five years. Central Time alignment gives the city a clean trading schedule, and the state's tax environment makes it attractive for high-earning traders.
Local ecosystem: SMU, UT Dallas; major banking and asset-management relocations in the last five years.
Time zone: CT — the NYSE opens at 8:30am local for traders based in Dallas.
What You'll Trade
The full menu of defined-risk options structures: vertical spreads, iron condors, butterflies, broken-wing butterflies, calendars (defined-risk variants), and combinations of the above. Underlyings span liquid US single-names, sector ETFs, and broad-market indices.
Day-to-Day
- Morning: review existing positions across structures; identify which strategies the day's IV environment favors
- Identify new entries with the strategy that best fits the thesis — directional, neutral, or volatility-based
- Execute as defined-risk structures only; build complex combinations as multi-leg orders, not legged-in pieces
- Manage portfolio Greeks across the book — vega, delta, gamma, theta — and adjust toward target exposures
Risk Profile
By design, this role caps loss at the defined-risk amount of each position. Portfolio risk is managed at the firm level via concentration limits and total notional caps. The defined-risk constraint sacrifices some strategies (naked puts, ratio sells, short strangles) but removes the tail-risk events that end careers.
Who Succeeds in This Role
- Traders coming from retail options who want the discipline of defined-risk-only without losing access to the full strategy menu
- People who think in strategy-fit-to-environment — not just one go-to trade
- Candidates with broad options knowledge but limited exposure to professional risk frameworks
- Traders who value the absence of tail risk in their personal trading psychology
Why This Role Exists at Maverick
Most career-ending losses in retail options come from naked short premium gone wrong. Maverick built this role specifically to provide a professional career path that excludes that single category of risk entirely. It's the most-applied-to options role at the firm.
